A Spectacular Week with the Singers

We rallied with the Caravan & Motorhome Club Singers last week at Fakenham Racecourse, and what a winner it was. A fabulous time was had by all.

The Marshals made it very special from the very start, planned fun and games to last the whole course. Socials were held in a lovely cozy room, Christmas Trees, Decorations, and a lovely log fire to complete the festive setting. Mince Pies, Mulled Wine, Singing Christmas lines, and a trip to the Limes, not to mention ringing chimes.

To elaborate, the marshals had really gone that extra furlong to ensure that we all had a fantastic time. We had not one but two fun quizzes to complete over the course of the rally. A Craft session was organised, where the creations were added to the Christmas tree. Fun and games were plentiful, and all the time there were endless supplies of Tea and Coffee, Cakes and Biscuits, even mulled wine AND mulled Cider.

Although they have retired from running the ‘Singers’ we were all delighted that Alison and Brian were to attend this rally. Not only did they attend, but Alison also brought a set of chimes, and taught us all to ring them to the tune of O Holy Night, accompanied by Brian on his electric Organ. This was great fun !! As part of the rally the Marshals had arranged for us to frequent the local Wetherspoons, the Limes, for a lovely lunch, and just in case anybody hadn’t had enough to eat over the duration of the rally an excellent three course meal was laid on in the Prince of Wales suite, at Fakenham Race course, for the Friday night, conveniently situated adjacent to the Rally Field.

The Organisation and stewarding of the whole meeting could not have been any better. However, the real highlight of the week, as had been planned, was our visit to the Thursford Spectacular on the Thursday Night. Quite often nowadays, certain adjectives are overused, and I may have been a little guilty of that myself in writing this review, but “Spectacular” is insufficient to describe the show put on annually in the depths of North Norfolk. As we arrived we walked into an area lit up by more coloured lights than you would see on the set of the Las Vegas Strip. More trees than a pine forest, and scenes of

animated Polar bears in the Arctic. Then you enter through the facades, and brick built buildings, into

what is actually an enormous barn. You would never know it though, with seating for 1,500 people, a full size working carousel to the left, Operational Steam engines to the right, in between which is a stage about twice as wide as you would find in any London theatre. The Stage houses a 99 year old original steam Organ, expertly played live throughout the performance. Over the next three hours those present witness such a variety show, that words cannot adequately do justice to. You really do have to be there to appreciate the ‘Thursford Spectacular’.

So a big thank you to the Caravan & Motorhome Club Singers, for giving us such a warm welcome, organising such a fantastic rally, and arranging such excellent seats at Thursford. We have been fortunate enough to enjoy your company on several occasions, and very much look forward to meeting up with you all again soon. We can’t wait till next time!!

To conclude, I will borrow the tune from a popular festive song, slightly adapted to reflect the excellent 5 days we spent with CAMCS in November.
